The Alabama Section of the American Society of Civil Engineers has a rich history and offers a variety of services, resources, and programs in support of our members. Alabama Section members come from all disciplines of civil engineering, from all types of backgrounds, and from all corners of this great state. They seek to be involved in the Alabama Section of ASCE for benefits geared to meet the high standards of the profession and to stay on the cutting edge of industry technology. Representative Martha Roby visits Montgomery Branch

On Tuesday, August 21, 2018, the Montgomery Branch hosted United States Representative Martha Roby. Representative Roby was able to meet all of the attendees and then provided an Update from Washington D.C. including Transportation and Infrastructure.

Representative Martha Roby is currently in her fourth term serving the people of Alabama’s Second Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives. Prior to being elected to Congress, Representative Roby worked as an attorney and served as a city councilwoman in Montgomery.

2018 Summer Meeting at Perdido Beach Resort

 

The 2018 Summer Meeting of the Alabama Section of ASCE and Alabama Chapter of APWA was held on July 16 – 18, 2018 at the Perdido Beach Resort in Orange Beach, Alabama for educational presentations on a range of professional and technical topics. 

The conference was a very exciting conference at a great venue. The program kicked off with a reception on Monday evening, July 16th. The conference sessions took place all day Tuesday, and until noon on Wednesday. There was a Seafood Dinner on Tuesday evening.

Governor Signs Historic BELS Law Rewrite

The Alabama Board of Engineers and Land Surveyors (BELS) law, ACT 2018-550, sponsored by Senator Clyde Chambliss in the Senate and Rep. David Sessions in the House, was recorded into history through a ceremonial signing by Governor Kay Ivey, on April 19, 2018. Members of the Board of Licensure, Alabama Section of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), and American Council of Engineering Companies of Alabama (ACEC) were on hand for the occasion.
 
The newly enacted law will become effective on the third month following its passage and approval by the Governor.
