2026 ASCE Fly-In to Washington D.C.

Members of the Alabama Section of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) were proud to represent our Section at the ASCE Legislative Fly-In in Washington, D.C. on March 19, 2026.

This annual event brings civil engineers from across the country together to engage directly with federal lawmakers and advocate for critical infrastructure priorities. Our Alabama delegation, Payton Billingsley, John Corbell, Lawren Pratt, and Kyle Couture, had the opportunity to meet with the offices of Gary Palmer, Dale Strong, Shomari Figures, Terri Sewell, Tommy Tuberville, and Katie Britt to discuss infrastructure needs and priorities impacting communities across Alabama.

Advocacy is a vital part of our profession, and events like this help ensure that the voice of civil engineers is heard at the national level. We’re proud of our members for representing Alabama and strengthening the connection between engineering expertise and public policy.

We hope this inspires even more participation from our Section in future Fly-Ins and at events closer to home, like our recent Legislative Drive-In in Montgomery.

2026 Civil Engineer Legislative Day

The 9th Annual Alabama Civil Engineering Legislative Day Drive-In was held on March 11, 2026, in Montgomery. This year’s event was a tremendous success, bringing together members of the Alabama Section of the American Society of Civil Engineers and ACEC Alabama to engage directly with state leaders and advocate for the civil engineering profession. We were especially grateful to have Clyde Chambliss, P.E., join us to discuss key issues and legislation impacting infrastructure and our industry.

From the legislative briefing and discussions at the Alabama Department of Archives & History to visits at the Alabama State House, our members demonstrated the importance of being actively involved in the legislative process. The opportunity to connect one-on-one with legislators and share perspectives on infrastructure needs across Alabama is critical to ensuring our profession has a strong and effective voice.

Events like Legislative Day reinforce the vital role civil engineers play not only in designing and maintaining infrastructure, but also in shaping the policies that guide our communities’ future. Participation helps promote informed decision-making and strengthens advocacy efforts across the state.

We encourage everyone to continue building on this momentum by staying engaged with local representatives and participating in future advocacy initiatives. Together, we can continue to elevate the civil engineering profession and make a lasting impact on Alabama’s infrastructure.

2026 Alabama Section Winter Meeting

The ASCE Alabama Section Winter Meeting Conference, hosted by the ASCE Mobile Branch, was an outstanding success! With more than 130 attendees from across the State, this year’s conference showcased the strength, professionalism, and camaraderie of civil engineers throughout Alabama.

We were honored to have the Mayor of Mobile kick off the conference, discussing Civil Engineering projects and challenges, setting the tone for what proved to be an engaging and informative agenda. The program featured excellent local presentations and discussions that highlighted important projects, emerging trends, and the impactful work our members are doing in their communities every day.

Beyond the technical sessions, one of the most meaningful aspects of the Winter Meeting was the opportunity to connect. The networking throughout the conference was exceptional. As colleagues reconnected, new professional relationships were formed, and old friends had the chance to catch up. These moments of fellowship are what truly make our Alabama Section strong.

A very special and sincere thank you goes to our sponsors and exhibitors. Your support made this event possible. From the quality of the venue to the overall experience for attendees, your investment in the Alabama Section and the profession does not go unnoticed. We simply could not host a successful conference without you.

Thank you to everyone who attended, presented, sponsored, and volunteered. The 2026 Winter Meeting was a tremendous success, and we look forward to building on this momentum as we continue serving the civil engineering community across Alabama.
