SUMMARY:
The purpose of this classification is to perform technical, professional, managerial, and administrative work functions associated with city engineering. This classification plans, coordinates, supervises, and performs activities involved in development of all plans, specifications, construction, and cost estimates for capital projects and operations and maintenance engineering. Employees in this classification may serve as specialist in a recognized branch of engineering, and are responsible for handling, in a largely independent manner, all complexities and facets of their assigned work, including providing answers to sensitive and controversial issues.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering required; six years of civil engineering experience concentrating in public infrastructure systems preferably in a municipal or state agency environment, including four years as a licensed professional engineer. Supervisory experience preferred. Must possess a professional engineering license from any state to apply for this position; however, the State of Alabama Professional Engineering License must be obtained prior to completion of the probationary period. Failure to obtain the State of Alabama Professional Engineering License will terminate employment. Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.

The purpose of this classification is to perform the managerial, administrative, and technical/specialized work functions associated with planning, developing, organizing, and overseeing the daily maintenance of City’s Transportation & Right of Way Infrastructure Assets, to include but not limited to the systems associated with traffic signals, storm drainage, landscaping and right-of-ways, regional airport, water & wastewater treatment plants & lift-stations, parking and animal control. This job also provides leadership for and assists in the direction in support of city’s arts and entertainment facilities, venues, and related events, to include special permitted events.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Business Administration, Public Administration, or a closely related field; five years of progressively responsible managerial experience in civil engineering, public works, public or business administration or a related field; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
