Alabama Section ASCE 2010 Summer Meeting Wrap-up

The 2010 Alabama Section Summer Meeting brought us to a new venue â The Conference Center at The Wharf Resort. By all accounts, the new venue was excellent and the meeting another great success. We had 151 attendees and 19 exhibitors at the event. The technical program consisted of two tracks with a total of 24 speakers covering structural, environmental, transportation, and geotechnical topics in civil engineering. 34 people enjoyed an afternoon of golf on Friday at Glen Lakes in Foley.

Lane Morrison of the University of Alabama was named Outstanding Civil Engineering Student of the Year, earning a $3,500 scholarship from the Section.

A big THANK YOU to the 19 exhibitors and 13 sponsors that helped make the meeting possible, and to the 9 sponsors of the golf tournament.

Workshop Notice - High Performance Building Design

The workshop information below is being provided as being of potential interest for some of our members. Alabama Section ASCE is not a sponsor of this workshop.

The full-day High Performance Building: Design workshop focuses on strategies for new building design and major energy upgrades to existing facilities. The workshop also discusses major market drivers for energy efficiency, including Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED^Â®), ENERGY STAR^Â®, the 2030 Climate Challenge and the ASHRAE Energy Design Guides.

The High Performance Building: Operations & Maintenance workshop is designed to be taken in conjunction with the High Performance Building: Design workshop. Both workshops are full-day trainings and are offered together on successive days.

Alabama Section ASCE Summer Meetign - Golf Sponsors Needed and Last Reminder

Alabama Section ASCE 2010 Summer Meeting - Registration, SPonsor, Exhibitor Forms

Registration is now open for the 2010 Alabama Section ASCE Summer Meeting. Attached are the registration form and a Sponsor/Exhibitor form. All Exhibitors come with one free registration to the meeting. If your company is going to be an Exhibitor, please have the person using the one free registration complete a registration form and write "Exhibitor" in the space for the registration fee. We need to have all attendees complete a registration form.

The registration form provides information, including phone number, for making reservations at The Wharf if you desire to stay at the meeting property. They will hold our block of units through May 22nd. After that date, any unsold units will be placed back in the rental pool. Units can still be rented at the conference rate after May 22nd, based on availability.

A tentative program scheduled listing all speakers and the sessions is attached (as of May 5th) and will also be posted to the Section website (www.alabama-asce.org) in the next few days. Remember that this program schedule is current as of the date noted and that changes to the program can still occur due to conflicts or other issues.

A new feature at the meeting this year is that we will have a PDH form for attendees to mark which sessions they attended. The form can be used to assist documentation of PDHs earned.

Please feel free to forward this e-mail to others in your firm and other civil engineers, especially potential new members to the Alabama Section.

Alabama Section ASCE - Summer Meeting 2010 - Meeting Information, Speaker Slots Still Available

Attached is some information concerning the Section 2010 Summer Meeting July 21-23. The information includes a list of speakers scheduled to date, as well as information on accommodations at The Wharf if you want to stay at the meeting location. The units being held will be released back to the general reservation pool soon. The rates will still be good, even after the hold has been released, based on units being available.

Save the date - July 21-23, 2010 will be the Alabama Section 2010 Summer Meeting, this year at The Wharf Resort in Orange Beach, Alabama. Weâll have a full schedule of speakers to earn PDH units, our annual business meeting and awards, the Thursday night family seafood dinner, and the annual golf tournament on Friday.

We are currently looking for speakers for this year's meeting. If you are interested, please see the attached form for instructions for submitting to be a speaker.

As always, we also need sponsors and exhibitors. If your firm is interested in being a sponsor and/or an exhibitor, please contact Joe Meads at Sain Associates at joemeads@sain.com.

Make sure and check the Section website later this Spring for meeting information, including lodging, registration forms, sponsor forms, and the tentative program.

Alabama Section ASCE Winter Meeting FINAL AGENDA

ASCE Alabama Section 2010 Winter Meeting

Attached please find the Registration Form for the ASCE Alabama Section 2010 Winter Meeting to be held on February 4, 2010 at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Huntsville. If you plan to spend the night before the meeting, a limited number of rooms are on hold until December 20, 2009.

Early Registration is $110.
Late Registration (after Jan.2nd) will be $135.

2010 Southeast Regional ASCE Student Chapter Conference and Competitions coming to Auburn

Alabama Section ASCE Members,

Auburn University's ASCE student chapter will be hosting the 2010 Southeast Regional ASCE Student Chapter Conference and Competitions along with co-hosts the University of Alabama at Birmingham and the University of Alabama at Huntsville. Attached is a file containing a letter from the students asking for volunteers to judge competitions and be sponsors for the conference. The file also contains forms and other information. I hope each ASCE member in our state will support this event in some way.
